Mexican government congratulated Daniel Ortega on his re-election as President of Nicaragua.
Ortega won a third consecutive term with 72.1% of the vote, after 66.3% of polling stations were counted, the electoral board said.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) said that Mexico reiterates its willingness to continue strengthening friendship and cooperation ties between the two nations.
The Mexican ministry also congratulated the Nicaraguan people on the election day, which was conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner.
