2 shot dead in Cancun tourist hotel zone

Mexican authorities say that two people have been shot dead in the heart of Cancun's hotel zone.

A statement from the Quintana Roo state prosecutor's office says that police responded to a report of shots fired at around 11:15 p.m. Sunday and found three people wounded. Witnesses indicated that there were two shooters.

The victims were employees of a bar and a disco. Two died of their wounds and one remains hospitalized.

Investigators found an abandoned motorcycle and a backpack containing two pistols near the scene. No arrests had been made.

Such violence in the tourist zone of Cancun is rare.
