Five survey workers of SIMO Consulting firm were beaten by residents of the town of Centla in the Gulf coast state of Tabasco on Monday night.

The survey workers were attacked by a mob that apparently mistook them for thieves and then they had to be rescued by agents of the Navy and the State Police.

They were taken to the Rovirosa Hospital in Villahermosa, where they were treated and discharged, except one of them whose condition is reported serious.

State Interior Secretary Gustavo Rosario says, "People cannot take the law into their own hands. The state government condemns these acts."
