Federal Police arrest founder of La Familia Michoacana cartel

Federal Police officers arrested Nicandro Barrera Medrano, known as 'El Nica' and one of the founders of the La Familia Michoacana cartel and then a figure in the Templar Knights organization.

The Federal Police reported that an intelligence operation allowed the authorities to find the suspect in the municipality of Metepec, in the State of Mexico.

The suspect was arrested without a single shot.

"El Nica" is considered one of the priorities of the new strategy of security in the state of Michoacán and the Office of the Attorney General offered a US$163,386 reward for any leads to his arrest.

Barrera Medrano has been identified as one of the people in charge of the money coming from illegal activities like drug contraband to the United States, as well as kidnapping, extortion and homicides.

The suspect has been taken to the federal prison of Almoloya, while the authorities investigate the charges against him.
