The Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts said that there is a smear campaign against the parents of the 43 missing students of Ayotzinapa after an audio was released last week in which Mario César González Contreras, father of one of the victims, tells Vidulfo Rosales, lawyer, that the criminal group Guerreros Unidos threatened him for allegedly failing to give 200,000 pesos (US$11,165) to the other parents.
Claudia Paz and Ángela Buitrago claimed that the purpose of this campaign is to affect the parents of the 43 missing students of Ayotzinapa, the group of independent experts itself and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR).
"Eavesdrop without authorization from a judge is a crime. In a country where the rule of law is respected citizens' telephones can not be tapped because this violates individual rights,” Paz said.
"We are here for Mexicans, the only purpose of our work is to find out the truth. There is a smear campaign,” Buitrago said. She added that there is a similar strategy against Emilio Álvarez Icaza, executive secretary of the IACHR.
Vidulfo Rosales explained that he indeed talked with González, but denied that they received funds from Guerreros Unidos.
