Gael García Bernal said that some people get surprised at the fact that he lives in Mexico.
“They ask me: 'still?' It seems as if Mexico is a country that you eventually have to leave. This is how people think,” the Mexican actor said.
“When you are abroad you have to explain how news are; we are the country of bad news, impunity is terrible and you have to explain what is happening,” García said at the presentation of the movie “Desierto”, in which he plays the role of an immigrant chased by an American (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
Gael considers that the movie is a homage to those who fight to have a better life by crossing the border illegaly.
The movie was directed by Jonás Cuarón and produced by his father Alfonso Cuarón and his uncle Carlos Cuarón.
