The senators of the National Action Party (PAN) will ask Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to investigate Carlos Bello Roch, Mexican consul in Denver, Colorado, who uses his position to promote an NGO called Vail Forum as a platform to do business between Mexico and the United States.
The investigation was proposed by Senator Gabriela Cuevas, who chairs the Foreign Relations Committee, and her fellow party member Juan Carlos Romero Hicks.
She explained that if Bello is found guilty, he should be immediately dismissed because his main duty is to defend Mexican citizens abroad and not to create organizations to promote investment.
Cuevas added that ProMéxico, a trust fund of the Mexican Government, has a much more and serious platform to promote international trade and investment.
EL UNIVERSAL first reported that Bello uses his position to promote the Vail Forum, an NGO registered under his name that charges between 1,500 and 6,000 dollars to its members, depending on the number of employees of the companies.
The Vail Forum was registered on May 19, 2015 at the Mexican Consulate's address: 5350 Leetsdale Drive, 80246, Denver, Colorado.
The employees of the federal government are barred from promoting companies or organizations to which they belong in order to avoid conflicts of interest and corruption.
