Mexicans in the United States will be able to get their Mexican voting card starting February 8 in 16 consular offices, according to Enrique Andrade González, of the National Elections Institute.
The number of consular offices will increase gradually until all the 147 Mexican consulates in the world will be able to issue the card, according to counselor Andrade González.
So far, only the consulates in Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Little Rock, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, Raleigh, Sacramento, San Antonio, San Francisco, Santa Ana and San Jose will participate in the process.
It is expected to have more than half a million cards issued, according to the counselor.
The idea is to allow Mexicans outside the country to cast their vote in national elections and protect their personal data, according to Andrade González.
