Mexican citizen survives attack in Burkina Faso

A Mexican citizen was staying at the Splendid Hotel in Burkina Faso when it was attacked by armed men who left 26 people killed, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).

The attack left 26 people killed, according to the SRE. But the Mexican citizen has been reported "safe and well".

"This person was in Burkina Faso performing practices together with other postgraduate students from an American university," reported the SRE.

The compatriot received support from the Mexican embassy in Nigeria, concurrent in Burkina Faso and returned to Mexico.

The person, who has not been identified, managed to hide during the attack and later was evacuated from the hotel in Ouagadougou. Thanks to the support of the United States authorities, he remained safe until his departure from Burkina Faso.
