Health agency investigates death of director

The Institute for Security and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE) began an investigation about the medical care provided to its director general, Sebastián Lerdo de Tejada Covarrubias, when he passed away on May 22 in the Regional Hospital Adolfo López Mateos.

José Reyes Baeza Terrazas, new director general of the ISSSTE, said that if there is a case of negligence whoever is responsible will be punished.

The research is derived from the video that EL UNIVERSAL presented yesterday, presenting what seems like the inadequate attention that the officer received upon arriving at the hospital the night he died of a myocardial infarction.

The three-minutes video indicates that Lerdo de Tejada did not enter the emergency area, but was transferred to intensive care floor. During the process equipment such as a defibrillator, just an oxygen tank carried by a lonely person in a white coat.

A paramedic massaged his heart, but stopped for at least 23 seconds, since the stretcher carrying Lerdo de Tejada suffered a failure.

Yesterday, the hospital released a statement indicating that the provision of medical services in the ISSSTE corresponds to the general protocols of the health agency.
