Mexico's government hired a team of lawyers in El Cairo to follow up the investigation on the attack against Mexican tourists on September 13, 2015 and obtain a compensation for the victims, Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu said.

In an interview with EL UNIVERSAL she explained that Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs will also send its own team of lawyers to Egypt accompany the investigation on the “outrageous attack” that “should have consequences” for the responsible parties.

What is the mandate that President Peña Nieto gave you when he appointed you Foreign Minister?

Strengthen our strategic bilateral relations, further consolidate our presence in multilateral fora, continue to provide protection to Mexicans abroad, protect Mexico's interests, contribute to international dialogue and a responsible agenda for this new millennium and promote Mexico as a safe destination reliable for investments as one of the main world economies that plays a major role in trade.

Some critics said that you did not have diplomatic experience...

As Minister of Tourism I participated in Mexico's international agenda and foreign policy. I not only promoted Mexico but also negotiated over 30 agreements with different countries.

As a legislator I participated twice in some of the most important reforms and was in contact with issues dealt by the Chancery such as migration, vote of Mexicans abroad, national security and human rights.

Moreover, I am accompanied by a team of professionals that work for Mexico's foreign service.
