Mexico City government will strengthen its environmental monitoring with units able of measuring toxic emissions of visibly polluting cars.

Mexico City mayor Miguel Ángel Mancera said that the 45 units (38 cars, one pick up, one Jeep and five motorcycles) will check toxic vehicle emissions on the streets and penalize drivers whose cars have not been verified and surpass the authorized levels.

Fines could go up to 1,671 pesos (US$97.6).
