Valentín Cárdenas Lerma, former director of “El Altiplano” prison in the State of Mexico, was charged for his suspected role in the jailbreak of Mexican drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

Two officials have been arrested so far in connection with the jailbreak: Celina Oseguera, former coordinator of Mexico's penitentiary system, and Leonor García, legal director of El Altiplano, as well as  Roberto Cruz Bernal, Jaime Galindo Hernández, Oswaldo Gastón Veytia Rodríguez, Miguel Ángel Flores Mirafuentes, Agustín Jiménez Molina, Herminio González Albarrán, Miguel Ángel Cortés Carrillo, Érick Sorcia Martínez, Arturo Hernández Hernández y Reyes Amyr Mota Carrillo, all of them prison guards.

So far 20 people have been accused of helping the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel to escape from prison in a tunnel built right into his cell.
