Technicians from Canada, the United States, and the European Union have made progress in the investigation of the helicopter crash that claimed the lives of two politicians in the state of Puebla , according to Mexico’s executive branch.

Carlos Alfonso Morán, assistant secretary of Transport at the Ministry of Communications and Transports (SCT)

confirmed that, not long after contacting the helicopter and motor manufacturers –the Augusta and Pratt & Whitney firms - the Mexican government turned to independent organizations to help in the official investigation.

The new President of Mexico Andrés Manuel López Obrador claimed that the collaboration was meant to avoid suspicions and “conspiracy theories” on the cause of the crash.

Two experts arrived on behalf of Canada’s Transport Safety Board , along with a technical adviser from the Ministry of Transport.

Canadian experts have concluded their field research and returned to their home country, where they will analyze the results and issue their technical report.

In addition, an expert from the U.S. government also participated in the investigation, despite their government shutdown.

Furthermore, on January 1 , a specialist from the European Aviation Safety Agency , as well as two Italian technicians arrived in Mexico to assess the evidence.

Meanwhile, Puebla’s attorney’s office is safeguarding pieces recovered from the crash in a hangar, with support from the Mexican army.

“All of our team members are analyzing components and will report their conclusions in meetings with international investigators,” stated Morán. “In the end, what we want is to create an online database to share with the participating delegations,” he commented.

On December 24 , a helicopter in which the governor of Puebla, Martha Erika Alonso, and her husband and senator, Rafael Moreno Valle were traveling crashed in the Coronango municipality.

After a long electoral controversy, Alonso took office as governor of Puebla on December 14, whereas her husband was governor between the years 2011 and 2017.
