MXN$118 million unaccounted for in baseball stadium construction

The owners of the Diablos Rojos de México baseball stadium paid MXN$118 million for the rights of use, exploitation, and administration of the space in the Magdalena Mixhuca Sports City between 2015 and 2018. However, the Mexico City government claimed that it did not know where the money had gone.

The Mexico City Sports Institute (INDEPORTE) and the local Ministry of Administration and Finance responded, via requests for transparency made by EL UNIVERSAL, that they had no information on the payment details.

Through a request under number 03150000016319, INDEPORTE was required to disclose all works, constructions, and refurbishments made with the payment, which consists of MXN$29.5 million a year, according to the Temporary and Revocable Administration Service (PATR) that the organization delivered and signed on November 3rd, 2015 to allow the construction of the baseball stadium.

On April 9, The Finance and Administration Direction, as well as the Department for the Recovery and Preservation of Sports Areas responded separately that their department did not “generate, acquire, transform, or possess any information” regarding the list requested.

The Diablos Rojos baseball stadium in Mexico City was inaugurated on March 23 and was built on a surface of 19.2 acres. The plot of land was delivered during the administration of former Mexico City governor Miguel Ángel Mancera .
