Four Mexican universities now appear in the British world ranking The Times Higher Education 2019 as the nation’s best qualified educational institutions.

The Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Metropolitan Autonomous University (UAM), and the Autonomous University of Querétaro (UAQ) appeared in the journal among more than 1,250 educational institutions around the world.

When conducting the world ranking, the Technological Institute of Monterrey and UNAM topped the national list, followed by UAQ and UAM. According to the journal, UAM ranks among the 17 best universities in Mexico. In Latin America, it ranks number 26 and 913 globally.

The Times Higher Education also did a Latin American ranking using data from their previous edition, in which the Campinas de Brasil State University ranked first, followed by the also Brazilian University of Sao Paulo and the Catholic Pontifical University of Chile.

Mexico’s UAM explained that this is the only journal that revises the global university performance and takes all elements into consideration for the ranking, including the implementation of academic research, teaching, knowledge transfer, and the international outlook passed on to their students.

The Metropolitan Autonomous University was considered to promote a large number of projects that address some of the Mexican society’s most pressing issues. Some of these projects include dental clinics, a law firm, a research facility in Chiapas, and the Sierra Nevada Project.

The important development fostered by research groups, two national science and technology labs, the participation of its teachers on the national stage, innovations, and development in specialty areas are some of its main strengths.
