The Mexico City government has put into practice an alliance with the telecommunications firm Direct Bus to provide shuttle service users with free internet access via Wi-Fi in all their 150 units.

The telecommunications company has stated that the service will be free of cost, since it will have an ad-based revenue. As users log into the Wi-Fi signal, they will be presented with advertisements.

The creation cost of the wireless internet infrastructure is estimated around 20 million pesos. The company expects a daily turnout of 80 users for each Metrobus unit, on average.

The Wi-Fi connection will allow users to connect on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Access to other platforms with higher demand will be blocked, since Direct Bus has decided to provide only between 50 and 100 gigabytes of data on each route.
