On June 23, Mexican authorities released 26 suspectsl who were detained in Celaya , Guanajuato , over the weekend.
El Marro’s mother and sister are still under arrest.
The 17 women and 9 men were released after being detained for two days even after state authorities announced they would be charged with terrorism .
The 26 suspects were arrested for participating in blockades and setting vehicles and businesses on fire after María Eva Ortíz , El Marro’s mother , was arrested.

The local prosecutor’s office said that five of these cases have been filed before a court ; two others have received an injunction because they are linked to other crimes; 7 minors weren’t imprisoned because of their age, and 12 suspects will face their trials outside prison; however, the investigation remains open.

On the other hand, a judge said the arrest of El Marro’s mothe r was legal, as well as the arrest of two other family members and two other suspects.
The five suspects are accused of drug possession for sale purposes; nevertheless, the judge didn’t decide if they would be bound over to trial or not.

The decision comes after the defense team asked for more time. The next hearing will take place on June 27. Meanwhile, El Marro’s family and the other two suspects will remain in custody.
On the other hand, the lawyer who represents María Eva Ortíz , the mother of the cartel boss , argues that the arrest was illegal and that the woman was arrested at 3 PM, not 9 PM as announced by state authorities.
The lawyer also denies that the three women are financial operators for the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel .
After his mother, sister, and cousin were arrested over the weekend, the infamous cartel leader released a video where he breaks down in tears and vows to retaliate against the government if his family members weren’t released.
