A 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck Ciudad Hidalgo, a community located in Mexico’s southern state of Chiapas on Tuesday at 8:27 p.m, according to Mexico's Seismic Institute and the U.S. Geological Survey.

There were no casualties or damages reported after the earthquake, which the agency said hit at a depth of 26 km (16 miles), and a distance of about 120 km (75 miles) west of Chiapas’s Suchiate region.

Earlier, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre monitoring agency had put the quake magnitude at 6.2.
