The Mexican government informed that the suspect allegedly involved in the attack against a consular official of the U.S. in Guadalajara, Jalisco, last Friday, will be repatriated to his country to have his legal status determined.

In a joint statement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), and the Attorney General's Office (PGR), it was informed that “As a result of the coordinated efforts of the Attorney General’s Office from Jalisco, the corresponding federal authorities in Mexico, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the U.S. Embassy in Mexico and the U.S. Consulate in Guadalajara, it was able to locate and arrest a person of U.S. citizenship, who is allegedly involved in this attack and who will be expelled and repatriated to the United States of America where he will have his legal status determined”.

Both Mexican agencies informed that a prompt state and federal follow-up, as well as a close assistance, have been provided to U.S. diplomatic and consular representatives from the moment the attack took place last Friday evening of January 6.

Additionally, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have accompanied the victim at the hospital and continue to monitor his health condition, which is reported as stable.

Mexican authorities, in coordination with U.S. authorities, will continue to perform the corresponding investigative actions to clarify the circumstances in which the U.S. consular official was attacked.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) and the Attorney General's Office (PGR) noted that with this efforts the Mexican government reaffirms its commitment ot guarantee the safety of its citizens, as well as that of foreigners in our country, specially those who are assigned to a diplomatic or consular mission in our country.
