.ART is the first internet domain dedicated to the promotion of Arts & Culture and has brought together, so far, around 60 of the most important museums, galleries, artists, cultural media and organizations worldwide. Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City, seeks to be the first Mexican institution to hold the domain.
.ART is managed by the UK Creative Ideas in agreement with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), with the aim of offering a digital trademark that identifies and supports the artistic and cultural community in the visual, literary, film, music and education fields.
The project extends an invitation to all venues, artists, vendors, organizations and media to endorse the proposal and “have themselves identified as members of the art scene worldwide”.
The domains will be launched in three stages: the pioneering users will have access between December 2016 and February 2017, followed by artists, museums and institutions in late February and leaving an open registry for all interested as from May 2017.
Pioneering members include museums such as Spain’s Guggenheim, The Pompidou Centre in Paris, Los Angeles County Museum of Art in the U.S. and the Tamayo Museum of Contemporary Art in Mexico City among many other prestigious foundations in Latin America and the Middle East.
