A 20-year-old girl was shot to death and her body abandoned on the Apatzingán-Cuatro Caminos highway in the Tierra Caliente zone, Michoacán.

According to police sources, the girl was identified as Maritza Villar, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the head, blindfolded and with her hands tied. 

A year ago, she was the host of “Otro Nivel”, a TV show featuring “Grupero” music videos, a genre of Mexican folk music influenced by cumbia, norteño, and ranchera.

Michoacán authorities said the killing could be a settling of scores between local drug gangs.
