Luis "N", also known as "El Rex" or "El Z-12", an alleged regional leader of Los Zetas in the northeast of Mexico, was captured Thursday night in the municipality of San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León, during an operation led by federal troops.
The arrest was confirmed by a state government source.
The alleged organized crime leader in Nuevo León and Tamaulipas was arrested in June 2007 in Atotonilco, in the State of Hidalgo, along with a dozen accomplices, who also worked for the Gulf cartel in Mexico City, State of Mexico, Querétaro, Durango and San Luis Potosí. He was released from jail in 2015.
“El Z-12” served in the Mexican Army from 1990 to 1999, he was commissioned as a federal agent in the Attorney General's Office (PGR) in the state of Tamaulipas.
