Mexican authorities say the former assistant prosecutor of Baja California Sur state has been assassinated just a few months after he was fired for alleged ties to the Sinaloa Cartel.
The state prosecutor's office says former employee Samgar Salvador Gómez Reyes was shot by unidentified assailants on his way to his office. His body was found Wednesday in the city of La Paz with three bullet wounds.
The motive in the killing remains under investigation.
In March, Gomez Reyes was named on a large banner that claimed he made deals with members of the Sinaloa Cartel.
Baja California Sur has seen a surge in killings as member of the Sinaloa Cartel fight among themselves and with the rival Jalisco New Generation cartel.
