A highway traffic accident due west of the Mexican capital killed 24 people and injured at least 10 others, the head of the country's emergency services said on Monday.

The accident took place along the Mexico-Tuxpan highway in Puebla state overnight and was caused when a car crashed into a passenger bus which sparked a fire that engulfed both in flames, according to local media reports.

The ten injured are Catalina Rosas, 23; Julivet, 18; Virginia Arellano, 39; Juan Manuel Hernández Sánchez, 21; Mario Hernández, 29; Magaly Arellano, 26; Miguel Cortés, 4; Jesús Martínez, 17; Manuel Cruz, 34 and Juventino Hernández, 21.
