After the return of the six Mexicans injured in an attack in Egypt last Sunday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Claudia Ruiz Massieu, demanded that the authorities of that country determine who is responsible for the incident and present reparations to the victims and their relatives, all while conducting an "exhaustive" investigation.
While expressing that the incidents in Egypt are "events without precedent," Ruiz Massieu also said that the bilateral relationship with "Egypt is long and valuable".
"We are outraged for what happened and it hurts us," she expressed at a joint conference with the Minister of Health, Mercedes Juan, who said that the victims are in "sensitive, but not serious" condition and were transferred to the National Institute of Rehabilitation, where they will be treated for burns and fractures.
Ruiz Massieu pointed out that the Mexican authorities are "waiting for the results of the investigations" in Egypt and expect them to be "exhaustive", while at the same time diverse alternatives are considered in case that doesn't happen.
At the same time, she said that Mexico trust the Egyptian authorities to properly conduct the repatriation of the remains of the Mexicans who died in that country.
Ruiz Massieu reiterated that the Mexican government demanded a compensation for the victims and their families through a diplomatic note, according to international law.
