U.S. visa system is reactivated

The U.S. announced today that the electronic system of visas in all its embassies and consulates is operating at its full capacity and pointed out that in Mexico it is already processing normal visas for temporary workers.

"Consular staff around the world worked throughout the weekend to diminish our backlog, the bulk of which has now been cleared," expressed Mark Toner, spokesperson for the State Department.

Toner added that they solved "the problem" which affected the issuance of visas for temporary workers from June 9 to 19.

He indicated that the embassy in Mexico is already processing the H-2 visas for temporary workers.

The failure in the computer system of the State Department could have left more than a thousand agricultural workers in Mexico stranded while waiting for permission to travel to California, Washington and Michigan, among other places.
