Emergency for radioactivity in Mexico

The National Coordination of Civil Protection of the Ministry of the Interior issued an alert in the states of Querétaro, Hidalgo, Mexico, Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí and Michoacán due to the theft of a radioactive source in the city of San Juan del Río.

At 10:30 a.m., the industrial services company Mantenimiento Industrial del Centro reported in Querétaro the robbery of a pickup vehicle the previous day at 6:00 a.m.

The vehicle was transporting a radioactive source containing iridium-192, which is used for industrial radiography.

The National Coordination of Civil Protection warned that the source can be dangerous for people if not properly handled and could cause serious or permanent injury.
