Mexican Navy forces faced armed individuals in the municipality of Los Mochis, Sinaloa, during the early morning, according to reports.
The incident began just before 5.00 a.m, and some people were injured among those who shot at the marines, according to the security authorities.
After the combat, the wounded were taken to local hospitals under heavy surveillance and the authorities began a search operation in the area where the combat took place, while armoured helicopters are flying over Los Mochis.
Just an hour before the shooting, the Navy was conducting a series of search operations in diverse residences in the areas of Scally and Las Palmas, arresting two males.
Also, as a consequence of the shooting, the local school board decided to suspend all classes in the area of Los Mochis.
