The first quarter of 2016 will be dominated by some of the most renowned Mexican filmmakers, such as Alejandro González Iñárritu, Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón, Salma Hayek and Diego Luna, and actors, such as Demián Bichir, Ana de la Reguera, Gael García, Ana Claudia Talancón and Omar Chaparro.

Together they have won seven Oscars, almost ten nominations to the coveted golden statuette and a couple of Golden Globes.

JANUARY

Alejandro González Iñárritu will present The Revenant, about a frontiersman on a fur trade expedition in the 1820s, while Salma Hayek will present The Prophet, based on a book by Lebanese writer Khalil Gibran. FEBRUARY

The film “Desierto”, directed by Jonás Cuarón, son of Alfonso Cuarón, will debut on March 4. It is about a group of people trying to cross the border from Mexico into the U.S. that encounter a man who has taken up border patrol duties in his own racist hands. The film is starred by Gael García Bernal, who plays the role of Moisés, a "pollero".

The psychological thriller “Paraíso Perdido”, starred by Mexican actress Ana Claudia Talancón, will debut on March 11, while the voice of Omar Chaparro will be heard in the third part of “Kung Fu Panda”.

On March 18 Diego Luna will present his new road movie “Mr. Pig”, which takes place in Mexico and follows a farmer who travels from the U.S. to Mexico joined by a pig.
