Mexico's leading actor Rogelio Guerra passes away at 82

Hildegardo Francisco Guerra Martínez, who went by the stage name of Rogelio Guerra , passed away today at age 82 in his home in Mexico City.

His children, actors Carlo and Aldo Guerra, as well as his wife Maribel Robles, survive him.

Guerra was born in the north-central state of Aguascalientes in 1936 and started his acting career during the 1960's.

His role as Luis Alberto Salvatierra, the leading man in Los ricos también lloran , (The rich also cry), co-starring with soap opera icon Verónica Castro , brought him fame and international acclaim, as the soap opera aired in 100 different countries and was dubbed in 25 languages in the early 1980s.

Regarded as the epitome of Mexican soap opera leading man, Guerra suffered from cerebral vascular disease in 2015 and dragged speech and walking difficulties since.

Figures of Mexican showbiz have offered their condolences to his family and bereaved through social media, including Guerra's 1979 co-star Verónica Castro, who has also included some fan memorabilia in her twitter feed to honor her late fellow actor:

Additionally, the U.S. embassy in Mexico has tweeted: "Our deepest condolences for the passing away of a man of the stage, Rogelio Guerra. There is a light lit for him in the proscenium. May he rest in peace."
