Mexico spent MXN $41 million for the presidential inauguration

The federal government spent MXN $41, 018,479 million for the reception that was hosted on December 1 , when Andrés Manuel López Obrador took office. The money was spent on organizing the event, transport, sound system, internet services, as well as luxury hotel rooms for over 100 Presidents and special guests.

EL UNIVERSAL

obtained exclusive information from the Foreign Affairs Ministry, including two invoices issued by two event planning companies, the ones in charge of organizing the dinner hosted after López Obrador was inaugurated as President .

The company Creatividad y Espectáculos, S.A. de C.V. charged the Foreign Affairs Ministry MXN $40,316,772 million for “activities for the preparation and execution of the broadcast of the Federal Executive Power 2018 .”

The second invoice, issued by Huellas de México, S.A. de C.V. , details the company charged the Ministry MXN $701,707 for the coffee services provided during the work meetings at the Foreign Affairs Ministry during the broadcast of the presidential inauguration.

Luxury hotels

Ivanka Trump

and King Felipe VI of Spain stayed in the same hotel. The Foreign Affairs Ministry issued a report explaining where did each of the 133 leaders and guests stayed during their visit to Mexico for the presidential election. For this event, the government rented hotel rooms in 5 luxury hotels in Mexico City .

According to the documents, I vanka Trump, Mike Pence , and Felipe VI of Spain stayed at the Presidente Intercontinental hotel.

Nicolás Maduro

and two of his companions stayed at the Camino Real hotel, and Evo Morales stayed at the J.W. Marriot Hotel.

The Menu

The menu enjoyed by the guest included traditional Mexican dishes. As entrée , guests were offered a creole pumpkin salad in a bed of pipián and huitlacoche cream; the main dish was a rib in axiote sauce with esquites and a plantain cake fritter .

Dessert

consisted of black sapote with mandarin ice cream or sweet pumpkin with vanilla whipped cream and caramelized peanuts.

During the event, President López Obrador sat next to Felipe VI of Spain; Beatriz Gutiérrez , his wife; Miguel Díaz-Canel, the President of Cuba .

Nicolás Maduro

; Evo Morales from Bolivia; Luis María Aguilar Morales , the former head of the Supreme Court ; TV host Galilea Montijo ; and actor Julián Gil were also present at the event.

During the event, the Instrumental Camerata of Mexico played traditional music for the guests.
