40 undocumented migrants from El Salvador and Guatemala were apprehended in the mountainous region of central Veracruz.

The arrest was carried out by agents of Mexico's National Migration Institute (INM) with the help of municipal police officers and took place on federal highway after the migrants were found traveling on a bus.

According to several of the migrants, they were headed to Puebla, where they were to continue their trek to the US-Mexico border.

The foreigners were transferred to a INM processing center in Tierra Blanca, Veracruz, where they will be held before being deported back to their countries of origin.
