The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reported that once the documents for the extradition of Joaquín Guzmán Loera are submitted, it will take 20 days to analyze the request as determined by the International Extradition Act.
The SRE pointed out that Mexico's Federal Judiciary Council confirmed that a federal judge approved the extradition of Joaquín Guzmán to the United States. Now it is up to the Ministry to approve his transfer within the next 30 days.
"El Chapo" is required by the U.S. authorities for crimes related to cocaine distribution and conspiracy in that country.
"It is important to note that the Government of Mexico will not determine the guilt or innocence of the accused for the crimes with which he is charged in another country. We will just verify that (the request) complies with the requirements of the applicable bilateral treaty," expressed the SRE in a press release.
