Mexico opens 21 tenders to build the new Mexico City airport

Mexico's Ministry of Communications and Transport (SCT) opens today 21 infrastructure tenders for the construction of the new Mexico City International Airport (NAICM).

According to information obtained by EL UNIVERSAL and classified as "confidential" the U.S. firm Parsons that is managing the project evaluated the cost of the works of the first phase in 90.5 billion pesos (US$5.7 billion).

Gerardo Ruiz Esparza, Minister of Communications and Transport, said that the bidding process for the main building terminal building starts in March 2016, while the packages for the fuel terminal, fuel distribution lines and navigation support systems will be tendered between May and June. 

Private investors, both national and international, will be able to participate in the tender to build three runways and the control tower.

Manuel Ángel Nuñez Soto, Director of Mexico City Airport Group, said that the project is running on time first aircraft will take off from the new airport on October 20, 2020
