The damage survey on Puebla to assess the devastation of the September 19 earthquake has finally concluded, and its results bring to light the real tragedy for thousands who have lost part – or the entirety – of their estate; as well as the challenge of the reconstruction effort, which has an estimated cost of 3 billion Mexican pesos .

Yet this reconstruction is not only material but emotional. At the same time the rebuilding operations take place throughout the state to repair 27, 812 housing buildings, there is also an operation to provide medical attention to several children suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

The Juconi Foundation , focused on the development and implementation of effective solutions for minors affected by social and domestic violence , has taken on the task of helping children with PTSD.

The executive director of the foundation, Isabel Crowley, explained the goal is to help the children now to avoid detrimental consequences during their adult life.

“Many have lost their homes and they are in shelters or similar places. All the things they saw as normal are missing,” she explained.

And it's not surprising, seeing the impact this natural disaster had on the state, which took the life of 45 people and left 27, 812 damaged buildings.

The Governor of Puebla, Antonio Gali Fayad , said the reconstruction of the buildings and damage repair will cost over 3 billion Mexican pesos, and that not only will they have to use the resources of the Natural Disaster Fund, but also from other mechanisms.

The City of Puebla – capital of the state – was severely devastated by the quake, but the local government has committed to repair 80% of all damaged buildings by the end of the year.

The manager of the Historic Center of Puebla City Sergio Vergara, explains 500 buildings were damaged in the area by the earthquake, but they have already repaired 50, so they're right on schedule.

Mr. Gali added he's looking for an expedited recovery. “What matters here is not to waste time, to have families united, and see Puebla rebuilt, little by little, with the effort of all of us,” he said.
