Directed by Michael Chaves, who was also chosen to direct “The Conjuring 3,” the upcoming movie “The Curse of La Llorona” will adapt the centuries-old Mexican legend about a heartbroken woman who haunts children at night .
Featuring Linda Cardellini, Raymond Cruz, and Venezuelan Patricia Velásquez , the film is based on the famous character of Mexican folklore: “La llorona” (The Weeping Woman).
In an interview with EFE last July , Patricia Velásquez stated: “I grew up with that story in Mexico. I have always thought that the story should reach the big screen, but in the right way. When they came to me with the project, I liked the script because it was very respectful of Mexican culture.”
“ Latin audiences in the United States are very excited about this project , which they have already deemed to be their own ‘ Black Panther ’,” claimed the artist referring to the MARVEL superhero ’s success among African American audiences in the United States .
The movie will come out in theaters on April 2019 .
