Mexico’s Ministry of Communications and Transports (SCT), Huawei Mexico, and Punto México Conectado

presented the first group of young Mexican semifinalists that were preselected to become part of the “ICT Competition 2019,” competing for one of the top 3 positions to participate in the international edition of the contest, which will take place in Shenzhen, China .

The competition aims to allow Mexican students to increase their knowledge and develop their abilities in the field of communications and information technologies (ITs) , as well as to measure up against students from other countries. The company will thus seek new active participants for digital transformation while promoting efficient mapping of the supply and demand of talents that the world requires.

In a ceremony held at Huawei’s OpenLab in Mexico , Edgar Olvera Jiménez, the assistant-secretary of Mexico’s Communications Ministry , pointed out that “In today’s world, competition between different countries is taking place in another dimension.”

“As the communications sector grows, so do social networking and technology. To take part in this development, we require two important things: For companies that develop new technologies to establish in Mexico; and to keep promoting alliances such as the one signed by Huawei with the SCT to conduct the ICT Competition. We have established this type of relationship through the Puntos México network, which establishes a connection between the government and private companies to allow for Mexican talent to develop and grow. On this occasion, we have 30 finalists that are the best that the country has to offer,” claimed Olvera Jiménez.

It should be noted that, in previous editions, the Mexican team won third place at the global competition, where around 40,000 students from more than 800 universities in 32 countries participated, including China, the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Russia, Australia, Mexico, South Africa, Egypt, the United States, and many more .

Javier Lizárraga Galindo, coordinator of the Information and Knowledge Society (CSIC)

, commented that “this sort of event is made to promote the development of abilities and competition among young people. It has been very rewarding to see that in last year’s edition, a group of Mexicans won the 3rd place at the global scale . It proved that we can break down barriers in any activity that we set our mind to. Activities such as the ICT competition show that Huawei’s efforts to contribute to society and develop abilities falls in line with the development of Mexican society.”

Antonio Corona Rodríguez, assistant manager of Public Affairs and Communications at Huawei Mexico

, along with Fanxuejian from Human Resources in Latin America , pointed out that “In order to support digital transformation worldwide, Huawei is actively building a new ecosystem of talent for ITs.”

With initiatives such as this, the Government of Mexico , in cooperation with private companies, has sought to develop talent among young Mexicans, strengthening the transmission of knowledge while improving IT comprehension for generations to come.
