Lydia Cacho’s house raided; journalistic material related to pederasty robbed

Acts of reprisal against the journalist Lydia Cacho have not stopped; two suspects broke into her home, killed her dogs, and robbed work equipment and highly sensitive journalistic material

Journalist Lydia Cacho , known for her investigations about child abuse , denounced yesterday that her house was raided : copies of her journalistic work were stolen, and her pets were poisoned.

Commenting on a publication about it from her personal Twitter account, Cacho expressed that violence is on the rise “to the same extent in which impunity protects them. Thank you for your solidarity . My journalistic research is safe out of the country; they took copies; no one steals the truth .” and used the hashtag “ AquíNadieSeRinde ” which means No one surrenders here.

It has been 14 years since Lydia Cacho was arrested for the publication of her book, The Demons of Eden (Los demonios del Edén) , where she exposed a pederasty network of businessmen and officials of the state of Puebla . She was attacked, kidnapped, tortured, and sexually abused by the police officers who arrested her.

This year, a federal tribunal finally issued an arrest warrant against Mario Plutarco Marín Torres, Hugo Adolfo Karam Beltrán, Juan Sánchez Moreno, and José Kamel Nacif Borge , who colluded to detain and torture the journalist and social activist. Lydia Cacho also received an official apology from Interior Minister Olga Sánchez Cordero for the violation of her human rights.

The publication of the organization Artículo 19 , refers that “yesterday, two unknown subjects raided the house of journalist and human rights defender Lydia Cacho. They stole work equipment and highly sensitive journalistic material ; in addition, they killed a dog that protected the house and another one was poisoned . It was an act of reprisal due to her practice of defending human rights and he r freedom of speech .

“The aggressors broke into the home in Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo , approximately at 18:30h , after breaking the cables of the security cameras and deactivating the alarm . They robbed work equipment, including an audio recorder , 3 photographic cameras , several memory cards , a laptop , and 10 hard disks with information of high public interest related to pederasty cases . Fortunately, the journalist has back-ups abroad ,” says Artículo 19.
