Entrepreneurs afraid of AMLO

Our national entrepreneurs, pursuant to our sources, have felt the need to get closer to their employees and ask them to think about who they will vote for this July 1 for President of the Republic. As proof of this is the letter Aereoméxico sent to its collaborators, which doesn't say whom they should vote for. We're told that in some cases, there is such fear over the possibility of Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) reaching Los Pinos, that employers will encourage the idea that Obrador will jeopardize investments and, as a consequence, their own jobs and the opportunity to generate more jobs. Thus, in the next couple of days, thousands – or millions – of workers will be asked to think long and hard about the future they want, starting this December 1, 2018.

The spokesman of the conservative National Action Party (PAN) in the Lower Chamber, Jorge López Martín , forwarded a public information request to the president of the Senate, Ernesto Cordero, requesting the Upper Chamber to submit to him the vehicle registration log of the Senate, matching the records corresponding to Javier Lozano Alarcón (former CEO of PEMEX), from 2012 to date. It asks for brands, models, and license plates of the vehicles. The deputy is interested in an SUV, which López Martín claims the spokesman of José Antonio Meade received from some entrepreneurs, one of them the infamous Athón Miñóz Bravo , called in the underworld of fuel theft as “ El Chachetes ”. According to his accuser, the SUV which Lozano Alarcón received is worth over MXN$ 1 million, an asset he obtained from the hands of organized crime. However, deputy López has failed to present evidence that could back up his claim.

Presidential candidates meet with the deans

Last week, EL UNIVERSAL informed to you that the deans of the universities in Mexico requested the candidates running for President of the Republic to break with tradition and commit to a real policy in favor of higher education. Well, now the deans will have the opportunity to make their request in person, at least with four of the presidential candidates. We're told that in a week, the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions of Mexico (ANUIES) will meet, separately, with the candidates Ricardo Anaya, José Antonio Meade, Jaime Rodriguez, and Margarita Zavala , as part of the 25th Extraordinary Meeting of the General Assembly of the ANUIES. The only one who will not come is “you-know-who.”

The House of Mexico in Spain

A group of Mexican students in Madrid approached Enrique Peña Nieto when the President was leaving the House of Mexico in Spain . Our sources say that the students behaved courteously with the Head of State, whom they asked to pose with them for a couple of photographs. A detail called the attention of the President's team: the street name in Madrid where this building – a chateau of the early 20th century – will be useful in strengthening the cultural exchange between both nations. The name of the street is Alberto Aguilera . Ring any bells?
