Bank of Mexico puts new bills into circulation
Bank of Mexico has just put a new 500 pesos bill into circulation, the first of a new bill family
The Bank of Mexico (BANXICO) put into circulation a new 500 pesos bill that has the image of Benito Juárez on its front, replacing Diego Rivera and Ignacio Zaragoza . This will be the first of a new bill family more difficult to forge.
The governor of BANXICO , Alejandro Diaz de León Carrillo , reported that this new family of bills, which will consist of six denominations, focuses on two themes: historical identity and natural heritage.
When announcing this new family of bills in the Interactive Museum of Economy , he said that the 500 pesos bill would be the first to be put in circulation starting today, because it is the one of greater demand and more susceptible to counterfeiting.
On the other hand, the 20 pesos bill will gradually disappear to be replaced by a coin . Although there are already 20 pesos coins in circulation, they are still relatively rare.
BANXICO will also introduce a 2,000 pesos bill
, though it is yet to announce a date for the incorporation of the other new bills.
