The fire that had already burned through nearly 2,500 acres of tropical forest in Yucatan and that had been reported as contained on Monday has reignited. As a result, Military and National Forestry Commission officials returned to the area to fight the blaze.

The fire continues to burn through tropical forest and wildlife in the nature reserve, despite the continued efforts.

As reported earlier by EL UNIVERSAL, the fire seems to have been sparked by illegal sea cucumber poachers, since the fire started on a beach near the nature reserve where poachers tend to gather to process the marine animals during off season.
