The transition in Slim's family

Over the last years Carlos Slim Helú has yielded the spotlight to his children and has also included some of his nephews and grandchildren in his companies.

México Siglo XXI and Aldea Digital are two emblematic events organized by companies of Grupo Carso in which Carlos Slim Helú gave the keynote address that enabled the audience to hear his opinions about society and business.

However this started to change last year. Carlos Slim Domit, Slim's firstborn and chairman of the board of directors of Grupo Carso, América Móvil, Telmex Internacional, Telmex and Grupo Sanborns, took the baton and spoke at the inauguration of both events.

Although Slim Helú was present at both events and spoke at México Siglo XXI, he did not play the main role; he yielded the spotlight to his eldest son.

The rest of his five children also play important roles in his companies.

Marco Antonio Slim Domit, Tony as his father calls him, is chairman of the Boards of Directors of Grupo Financiero Inbursa, Inversora Bursátil, Seguros Inbursa and Impulsora del Desarrollo y el Empleo en América Latina (IDEAL).

Patrick Slim Domit is chairman of Telvista Group, a customer services company; president of Sears, vice president of Grupo Carso and América Móvil, CEO of Grupo Sanborns and commercial director at Telmex.

He is also member of the boards of Grupo IDEAL and Minera Frisco.

His daughters play roles in his foundations and one Board of Directors; however, their husbands have important positions in his companies.

Daniel Hajj Aboumrad, husband of Vanessa Slim Domit, is the CEO of América Móvil and board member at Grupo Carso, Minera Frisco, Telmex Internacional and Telmex.

Arturo Elías Ayub, husband of Johanna Slim Domit [who is member of the board of directors of Grupo Sanborns], is the director of Strategic Alliances and Content of América Móvil, director of Fundación Telmex and director of UnoTV.

He is also board member at Grupo Carso, Grupo IDEAL, Grupo Financiero Inbursa, América Móvil, Telmex Internacional and Telmex.

Soumaya Slim Domit's husband, Fernando Romero, does not play any role in Slim's companies, but along with Norman Foster, he is responsible for the architecture of the new Mexico City International Airport.

Some of Slim's nephews also hold positions in his companies. Alfonso Salem Slim is vice president of Grupo IDEAL, deputy counselor at Grupo Carso and president of Inmuebles Carso.

Alejandro Aboumrad González serves as CEO of IDEAL and Minera Frisco, while Héctor Slim Seade is CEO of Telmex and board member of Inbursa.

Slim Helú is member of four Boards of Directors of the eight companies that trade publicly: he is president of Minera Frisco and board member of Grupo IDEAL, Grupo Sanborns and América Móvil.

Slim Helú's grandchildren also hold minor positions in his companies to understand how they operate from the bottom up. His eldest grandchildren, children of Vanessa Slim Domit and Daniel Hajj Aboumrad, are part of the boards of some companies. Daniel Hajj Slim is board member of Minera Frisco and Rodrigo Hajj Slim is board member of Soinmob Inmobiliaria Española.

Also the eldest son of Johanna Slim Domit and Arturo Elías Ayub is board member of one of Slim's companies.

Arturo Elías Slim is board member of Impulsora del Desarrollo y el Empleo en América Latina.
