State police officers entered the central esplanade of the town of Santiago Atlatongo in order to rescue a woman who had been subjected to repeated beatings by the locals, who accuse her of being a kidnapper.

Two males were also beaten by the locals and one died as a consequence of the violence exercised against them.

The officers removed hundreds of people from the area, under a constant rain of rocks and different objects thrown against them.

The woman, who apparently was unconscious, was carried and protected with riot gear by the officers, who took her to a vehicle and then to a hospital.

The surviving male was taken by the authorities to the state of Hidalgo, where the trio was supposedly holding a minor they kidnapped.
