The authorities of the State of Mexico confirmed the murder of the mayor of Jilotzingo, Juan Antonio Mayén Saucedo, while he was driving on the Naucalpan-Ixtlahaca road in the  community of Santa María Mazatla, along with two of his bodyguards.

Early reports indicate that the mayor, from the right-wing National Action Party, was shot while he was traveling on board a medium-size car equipped as a patrol when unidentified assailants fired against the vehicle.

His escorts Carlos Magallán López and Omar Calzada were also killed, while two police officers were only injured. They are currently in a hospital in the municipality of Naucalpan.

Currently, the Commissioner for Citizen Security of the State of Mexico, Eduardo Valiente, is inspecting the area where the attack occurred.
