Nine killed in Reynosa clashes

Nine suspected criminals were killed and four soldiers were wounded after a series of clashes between federal forces and armed men in the city of Reynosa.

According to the multiagency Tamaulipas Coordination Group, at 4:30 a.m. armed men faced marines at the Bugambilias neighborhood, and the federal forces killed four attackers traveling on board a Nissan X Trail truck.

There were other clashes between the security forces and criminals, with five presumed felons killed in the Brecha del Becerro area.

The criminals stole some cargo trucks and buses in the areas, as well as cars, in order to block the roads and stop the federal forces from advancing.

At least three cars were burned, as well as a personnel bus from a local maquiladora company.

During the incident, a vehicle from the Ministry of Defense overturned and four soldier were wounded in the area of Lomas Real Jarachina.

The most affected neighborhoods in the city are Granjas, Esfuerzo Nacional, Cumbres, La Cima, Villa Florida, Aztlán, Fuentes, La Cañada, Tecnológico, Puerta del Sol, Juárez, and Almaguer, where fragmentation grenades and long guns could be heard.

At 8:00 a.m., clashes were still heard in the Bocatoma and Rancho Grande areas, but the situation began to normalize a couple of hours later, and the authorities began to clear the roads.
