A national survey conducted by EL UNIVERSAL / Buendía & Laredo showed that 42% of Mexicans approve the performance of Enrique Peña Nieto as President, while 51% disapprove it.

His approval rate rose seven points compared with the survey conducted in August this year, one month after the escape of drug lord Joaquín Guzmán Loera from prison.

Positive views about President Enrique Peña Nieto went from 22% in August to 25% in the current survey. However, despite the increase, the positive opinions about Mexico's President have dropped 30 points during his administration.

When asked what is the best that President Peña Nieto has done, the participants mentioned social programs and actions to fight poverty (17%), followed by structural reforms (10%) and public works (7%).

The survey revealed that even though there are Mexicans who have a positive opinion about reforms, others consider them the worst that Peña Nieto's administration has done: 13% of the participants said that the reforms are the worst action of the President, followed by the poor economic performance, higher taxes and unemployment (9%) as well as insecurity, violence and the combat against drug trafficking (9%).

Moreover, negative opinions about the direction of the country continue to surpass positive ones: 58% versus 23%.

Similarly, about half of the respondents said that the country's situation is worse since the beginning of this administration, and only a quarter of the participants believe that the country is better. Only one in five Mexicans believe that this administration has the country's problems under control.
