911 to start operating next year in Mexico: IFT

All the current emergency numbers, such as 060, 061, 065, 066, 068 and 080 will migrate to the new emergency number.

Mexico's Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) said to EL UNIVERSAL that the emergency number 911 will start operating in Mexico at the beginning of next year.





The regulator added that mobile operators must offer free access to the new emergency number to all customers, including those who ran out of credit.

The IFT explained that all the current emergency numbers, such as 060 (local police), 061 (state police and Mexico City police), 065 (Red Cross), 066 (Emergency Service), 068 (Fire Department) and 080 (Security) will migrate to 911.
