Since last Friday, seven schools in the area of Acapulco have closed their doors due to the violence and insecurity in the region, making it impossible for teachers and students to have normal activities.

According to local authorities, three schools in the Emiliano Zapata neighborhood, west of Acapulco, closed their doors after receiving threats of extortion and kidnappings, which according to teachers come from organized crime.

Highschool 16, Kindergarten Miguel Alemán Valdés and the via-satellite secondary school Manuel Quiroz Cabrera justified the suspension of activities due to the lack of conditions to have normal activities, at least until the end of the wave of violence in that seaside city.

Just in last January, former mayor Luis Aburto Walton recognized that 109 schools in the area had to close their doors due to insecurity, despite the presence of the Gendarmerie, the Federal Police and Army officers.
