The Mexican Attorney General’s Office announced on Thursday that a Mexico City judge issued an arrest warrant to extradite the fugitive drug lord to the U.S.
However, El Chapo's defense filed an appeal on Friday and a Mexico City court granted a provisional suspension of extradition process.
According to a document from the Mexico City court, obtained by Reuters, the judge will decide on August 26 if protection against extradition to the U.S. is definitively granted.
